Marlborough celebrated Science Week with a wide range of science based activities.  The theme of the week was ‘Explore’ and children were encouraged to think about everyday discoveries and how they affect our lives by exploring science in the world all around us; from home and school, to the local area and wider environment.

The week kicked off with a fantastic assembly given by our Science Ambassadors.

On Tuesday the whole school took part in ‘Dress as a Scientist’.

Throughout the week children took part in science based lessons and workshops including the exciting ZooLab workshop which gave children the opportunity to get up close to a range of mini-beasts, reptiles and spiders.

Classes also combined art and design with science creating 3D models, shadow pictures and mono-chromes.

The grand finale was the Science Fair where children presented their science inventions to peers and parents.

Science Week was a really fantastic way for children not only to enjoy science, but to understand how it fits into our everyday lives.  A huge thanks goes to Mrs Khilji, our Science Co-ordinator, for all of her hard work.

Check out some of the quotes from the children and pictures below!

“The highlight was when ZooLab came to our school because the whole school had the chance to experience and learn more about animals.”

Khalid, Pankhurst Class

“I really liked looking at people’s inventions.  I also really enjoyed the science quiz as it made my brain work more.”

Matilda, Pankhurst Class

“On Thursday I went to the animal workshop.  I saw a snail with a big shell and I saw a snake, it was very long.  I saw a scorpion and when we put the light on the scorpion’s back it changed colour.  I saw a lizard and lizards have a long tongue and they use their tongues to eat bugs.”

Kacper, Lennon Class

"I really enjoyed taking part in the Science Quiz for the whole school because we got to answer questions and learn more about Science. I touched the cockroach and it felt rough and tickly! I was nervous at first but I would still do it again!"

Dvisha, King Class

"My favourite part of Science Week was dressing up like a scientist and touching different animals in the workshop. I learnt new facts about the animals and can't wait for next year's Science Week! I also enjoyed making artwork about Shadows and Light"

Shreyas, King Class

"I loved Science week! I enjoyed the animal workshop the most because we were able to see different animals and learn about their diets and habitats. I also loved when we dressed up as crazy scientists for the day!"

Dani, King Class

“The Science Week was amazing!  I had an extraordinary experience.  The ‘dress up as a scientist’ and the animal workshop were my personal favourites.”

Palash, Zephaniah Class

“Science Week was fun, fun, fun!  My favourite part was seeing the inventions because you got to know the children better and see the great inventions.”

Lilly, Mandela Class

“I like the snake because I was able to touch it and when it came out I put it round my neck.”

Youcef, Lincoln Class

“We were encouraged to discover science in every way possible.  Our topic during Science Week was ‘discover’ and I discovered many things on the topic of electricity.  During the afternoons we tried new experiments and learned about batteries.  It was an extraordinary week that everyone enjoyed.”

Harshita, Lincoln Class

“Learning about animals was very interesting.  There are two groups of animals and in those groups there are even more groups of animals in them.  Also touching the animals and seeing how they protect themselves in the workshop was amazing.  Finally I loved the Science Fair.  Seeing different inventions that could help our world in so many different ways was amazing.  My invention was chosen and people said that it could help the world and was a very good invention.  I would love to do this again.”

Oytun, Pankhurst Class

“As a Science Ambassador, I stuck posters about Science Week around the school.  The Science Ambassadors even worked hard on making a presentation for the school.  This year’s Science Week was the best.”

Tashvee, Blyton Class

“During the animal workshop we learned many new facts, many of which helped people overcome their fear.  As a Science Ambassador I had to stick up posters.  It was a truly unforgettable experience.”

Amogh, Potter Class

“I liked seeing other people’s scientist costumes when we dressed up.”
